First 10K Race-Day Checklist

What to settle before you leave home, at the start, and during the race.

Plain answerPin or attach the bib the night before, confirm the start location and parking or transit, lay out tested clothing and shoes, check event rules, and work backward from corral time. Race morning should execute decisions already made—not create new ones.

The night before

  • Bib and attachment method, if already collected.
  • Tested shoes, socks, shorts or tights, top, and weather layer.
  • Watch and phone charged; alarm plus a backup.
  • Start address, parking or transit plan, road closures, and required arrival time.
  • Familiar breakfast and fluids ready.
  • Bag-check rules and event-specific headphone policy confirmed.

Before leaving

  • Dress for the actual forecast, including wind and rain.
  • Use nothing new: not shoes, socks, food, supplements, or a heroic warm-up.
  • Bring identification, required confirmation, and any personal medication you normally carry.

At the event

  1. Find toilets, bag drop, and the correct start area first.
  2. Warm up only as rehearsed; first-timers rarely benefit from wasting energy.
  3. Stand near runners expecting a similar pace, behind faster corrals.
  4. Let the first crowded minute be slow.

During the 10K

Start at controlled effort, follow your planned run/walk pattern, take water only as practiced, and obey volunteers and course markings. Race rules vary, so the event’s own instructions outrank generic checklists.

Run More! You can do it!

RunTeaming is an Android running league. Your best qualifying run of the week becomes your score on a five-runner team. The app supplies the team and matches it against another team near its level, so you do not have to recruit anyone or meet at the same time or place.
